High speed

Michel St. Hilaire is inspired by universal themes ranging from human infrastructure, natural environment and interpersonal relationships.

His artistic practice is based on reflection and concentration with a focus on architectural motifs and geometric design.

He positions the elements of space and structure on the canvas in a dance of color and form, celebrating the grandeur of both. His work offers a visual narrative without judgement, leaving the audience to draw their own conclusions about the play between nature and humanity.

Michel has had solo and group exhibitions in diverse cities in several commercial galleries in western Canada. He has had solo exhibitions in conceptual galleries such as La Maison Des Artistes, and in “La Galerie” in The French Cultural Centre in Winnipeg. In this new series, Michel St. Hilaire offers a portrait of a new era where humanity's relationship with nature is put in conflict by a thirst for convenience.

High speed is a tribute to human connection, both celebrating our accomplishments and musing about the consequences of our accomplishments. Nature’s movement is controlled by the geographic shapes and the precise lines that speak to technology and how we control our environment by imposing our will on nature.

Pristine landscapes are scored by aggressive lines, highlighting the stark contrast.
